Doors Open Markham
September 22, 201210 a.m. - 4 p.m.Admission is free
2012 marks the 10th Doors Open Markham event. The community with the motto "Leading while remembering" is proud of its remarkable legacy of historic places. Markham is honoured to have received the Prince of Wales Prize (2000) from the Heritage Canada Foundation, in recognition of our heritage conservation programme. In 2008, Markham was again honoured with the Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage Award for community leadership.
Markham officially became a city on July 1st this year, but that doesn't change the unique character of our municipality as a "community of communities" with its distinct historic villages and hamlets interwoven into the forward-moving urban fabric of the 2000s.
This year Doors Open Markham has added nine new sites to visit, and brought back perennial favourites like the Markham Civic Centre, Markham Heritage Estates and the Thornhill Village Library. Doors Open Markham has also moved the date to September 22nd so that the summer cottage crowd will be back in town to join in and see the sites!
